This latest update should make a big difference to the events sector. The updated guidance means events and gatherings will now allow up to 40 people plus up to 10 customer-facing staff. Additional staff, such as chefs, who have no interaction with guests will not be part of the headcount.
You can read the details in full here, and there is a summary of the changes below.
- Events and gatherings now allowed with 40 attendees plus up to 10 customer-facing staff. Kitchen staff, performers in a play etc that have no interaction with the attendees can be over and above this number.
- Concurrent events can now happen both inside and outside. Note: key mitigation is that different events are clearly separated and that there is no movement of attendees, staff etc between concurrent events.
- The requirement for food and drinks services to adhere to the events and gatherings maximum numbers has been removed – maximum numbers determined by physical distancing between households at all times.
- Restaurants and bars are required to adhere to the events and gatherings guidance for any individual booking for over 20 people.
This is much better news for those businesses who have been badly affected by the restrictions this year.
