Guidance on preventing falls from windows and Juliette balconies
In the last five months there have been three separate incidents involving falls from hotel windows and balconies. Tragically, one person has died following a fall from a window and another sustained life-changing injuries. In addition, a hotel guest sustained a serious injury after falling from a Juliet balcony.
The Health and Safety Inspectorate will be issuing guidance on this issue shortly, following which a series of inspections will be made to a cross-section of the industry to check that a suitable window risk assessment has been carried out and appropriate action taken where necessary. If you need any further information before the guidance is published, the Health and Safety Inspectorate team are happy to answer your queries.
